Activities

Looking for a fun Adopt A Class activity? Check out what other Adopters have done:

  • We are tutoring once per week, but each employee involved is only assigned a one hour session per month, which has made the time commitment easier for individual staff.
  • Our annual riverboat trip is always a big success.
  • The students wrote letters to our Payroll Department at Convergys. They told about themselves and described their interests and life goals. Then each employee was assigned a student and we responded to the letters. The students liked exchanging letters so much they decided to do it again before the school year is over.
  • We had a “Meet and Greet” event where we made name tags and shared apples and muffins.
  • We had a “Trail Mix” party where each student was able to make his or her own bag of trail mix to take home.
  • We visit often and just have quality time with the students to catch up and talk.
  • We invited the class to our factory for a home-cooked turkey dinner. Everyone dressed up and the gentlemen wore ties. We had a sparkling cider toast. After our big meal we gave the students Christmas gifts and then toured our factory.
  • We’ve hosted a Valentine’s Day part where we played Bingo and decorated sugar cookies.
  • We started a snack and weekend food program to supply the class with nutritious snacks for school, plus a take-home pack of food for the weekend.
  • About 4 or5 of us brought some musical instruments on one of our classroom visits. We did a show and tell with the kids, explaining the different instruments and showing how they were played. Then we did an impromptu jam session and had the kids sing along. We passed around some percussion instruments and let the kids try them out. It was a blast!
  • We meet monthly with our class, and all of our events have gone very well.
  • At Thanksgiving we had students write down on paper ornaments what they were thankful for and then we put them on a Thanksgiving Tree. We also write letters back and forth every month.
  • Bringing the students to our workplace has been a wonderful experience both for the children and our employees!
  • We took the students roller skating at the community rink next door to the children’s school.
  • Decorating Christmas ornaments was a fun activity that allowed the children to express their creativity. They were very encouraging toward one another.
  • For our End of the Year party we had an “Un-Birthday Celebration” with pizza, cake, ice cream, games and birthday gifts for each child. They seemed to really enjoy it!
  • The May Day flower pot painting and plant planting was a lot of fun.
  • Our group set up discussions around careers—we were always asking kids what they want to be when they grow up—this fostered good discussions and thought.
